Protecting Home from Pesky Pests

You're probably already well into your spring cleaning routine and have hit the field. Why not take the extra distance and protect your house against spring and summer pests while you are there? Only a few extra steps can ensure a pesticide-free house throughout the year. But, do not forget to call a pest control service from time to time.

Kitchen

Due to the abundance of food, the kitchen can be a haven for many invaders. It's a must to keep clean, but it doesn't simply take spoiling fruits out of the counter or sweeping crumbs from the floor. Total pest management in the kitchen calls for access to these long-forgotten corners and prevention. Remove all from your wardrobe. Anything is to be found and handled there. Anything hidden there. Infestation signs may include plague droppings, rubbed packages or unusual blemishes. Wipe surfaces, replace and change the liner paper.

In your pantry, do the same. Throw out all expired items, including spices and meal (not every pest goes for the sweet stuff). As mice and rats can chew in paper, cardboard and plastic containers, they can try their hands on items like cans or pots. Don't forget the floor! We are trying, remember, to take a step further to avoid future infestations so that devices are pulled behind them and they are vacuumed or moped. You'll be astonished, or perhaps displeased with what's gathered there, but now you can rest easily because you're clean.

Bathrooms

Avoid any kind of excess humidity. Leaking pipes, slowly dripping taps and ineffective joints (e.g. the seal on the floor of your toilet bowl) make cockroaches and silverfish attracted. In fact, about half of all infestations of Cockroach are caused by a broken water or sewer. You must immediately fix any corrosion or leaks you find.

Exterior

We all want pests to remain outside our houses in their natural environment, but sometimes it can be difficult or even damaging to have pests close to the outside of your home. Termites get into their winged grown-up stage and swarm, after recent precipitation, in the warm weather. Bees, wipes and other flying insects swarm and in the summer they start building new hives. Look for your nests under the roof eaves, or in your yard's trees. Ameliorations become more active when the ground softens and expands under your yard. Call an exterminator immediately if you see an anthill forming.

Carpenter ants like spring rain forest, and an infestation can be started very easily, so keep an eye out in the wood or on the sides of your home for small holes. Seal any possible inside entrance, such as window and door seals or pipes and wires that feed from outside via your walls.

You can keep your home pest and worry-free with a little extra work this spring. Call our pest control team immediately if you find evidence of an infestation. When the weather is warmer, infestations can escalate rapidly. Mother Nature’s Pest & Lawn in OKC is always at your service.
