Say Bug Off with these 5 Clever Exterminator-Approved Hacks

What is dreamier than an outdoor June wedding in Oklahoma. The sun flitting through the foliage. Vines sway as a romantic summer breeze blows through. Birds chirping, flowers blooming, and - ARE THOSE BUGS CRASHING YOUR PARTY?

These pesky little critters are annoying and will, frankly, mar the sanctity of your wedding. Fortunately, our pest control team (rodents, roaches, and bed bug exterminators) came up with some clever hacks to keep bugs from ruining the best day of your life.

#1 Apply Sunscreen and Bud Spray Liberally

If you are having an outdoor wedding the first thing your makeup artist will ask you is to incorporate sunscreen into your prepping routine. Find a sunscreen that suits your skin type and will work well under the makeup. Make sure it is SPF 30 or above. Once you’re done applying sunscreen over the exposed parts of your body, get on with your makeup. Finally, apply the bug repellent spray. We recommend a 30-minute window between the sunscreen and bug spray lest the chemicals mingle and cause an allergic reaction. If you are worried about the sun bothering your skin, you can carry a stick of sunscreen for reapplication.

#2 Hand Over Some to Your Guests

An outdoor wedding should always have bug sprays available. Have a couple of bottles handy at the corners. Another ingenious idea is to include mini bug repellants for the guests in their welcome basket.

#3 Attach Fabric Softener Sheets to the Chairs

Fabric softeners sheets contain a chemical compound known as linalool. The linalool keeps away mosquitoes and bugs. The only problem is that dryer sheets may be an eyesore but it’s not hard to fix that. Have a talk with your decorator and brainstorm some strategic locations to tape your fabric softener sheets to. One popular idea is taping the sheet to the underside of the wedding chairs.

#4 Pick Flowers That Keep Away Bugs

Aren’t bugs actually attracted to flowers? Well yes, but the kind of bugs that are likely to infiltrate your wedding despise certain kinds of flowers. Mosquitoes, for example, are extremely averse to marigold and citronella. Ants avoid going near chrysanthemums and garden gnats are sensitive to lavenders. When you hire a florist, work with them to incorporate these flowers in centerpieces, bouquets, and other non-traditional places. You can also get citronella candles and citronella-infused tiki torches. In addition to being a pest control measure, it is also going to

#5 Hire an Exterminator to Treat the Area

Most outdoor wedding venues have monthly bug exterminators come to treat the area. Discuss with the venue people how recent the last extermination treatment was. If it’s only been a week, you are good to go. Else, we suggest you hire a pest control company to spray the place 3-4 days before the wedding date. You will need to inform the venue management of this and obtain their permission, but it shouldn’t be too hard to get. If you own the property, you are getting married on, it’s even easier. Just make sure, the treatment is done 3-4 days prior such that the place does not reek pesticide.
