What Insects do in winter?

Winter brings a lot of changes in human’s life. What about the insects? Do you need to call pest control in winter or they go for hibernation? We will discuss everything here.

Bedbug

One thing people should know about Bed Bugs is that they are able to withstand temperatures from close to 122 degree F making it very difficult for us to control them. The bad news for us is that our homes are the perfect survival habitat for winter. They live inside and feed them both in winter and other seasons, and need them to survive. They are happily active in your house all year round, given their food source and their warmth. They can also survive for several months without eating even if they do not have a food source at that time.

Cockroach

Cockroaches are actually one of the world's oldest insects and are older than dinosaurs. They are one of the world's most adaptable living beings, but can they survive cold or die in winter? Most cockroach species can survive year-round, although some cockroaches such as German cockroach prefer a damp indoor habitat close to food sources and humidity. Often in the kitchen and bathroom of our house, especially in winter, they are quite comfortable. Americans, on the other hand, live outside in warmer climates and move to homes or larger commercial premises as the temperature increases.

Mosquito

Mosquito bites are certain during the summer months while outdoors. But you are surprised to know that in the cold winter months, mosquitoes are not falling away. Mosquitoes go into hibernation in protected areas such as hollow logs, etc. The female mosquitoes wake up when the temperature improves and seek blood for feeding and eggs.

Termites

In winter months, what happens really to termite depends entirely on the species and the climate in which they live. The underground termites dig deeper into the earth in the colder climate just to remain warm. Drywood termites, on the other hand, are looking for drywood for refuge. In the spring, male and female swarmers come out of their nests to look for a new mate or nest location in our homes. This means that in this season termites can invade our home. During the winter period different species of termites may invade their homes after their time under the soil or dry wood. Termites can be active all year round in warmer climates or in warmer homes, when the temperature is controllable. Call professionals for termite treatment at your home seeing the early signs.
